Project Overview

Designing a surprising feature to help students and recent graduates

Project

As part of my boot camp personal project, I was instructed to choose a topic and explore the problem/s around it. I chose career support and guidance for students and recent graduates. The double diamond laid the foundation for finding the problem and solution.

Research

I conducted a survey for 3 days, resulting in 31 responses, and 5 interviews, and analyzed 5 competitors offering career support and guidance.

Key Findings

  • Students & recent graduates are unsure of their career path

  • Career guidance and support are difficult to find and are expensive

  • Platforms focus only on a few industries like tech

  • They tend to connect with professionals on LinkedIn but a response is not guaranteed

Problem

Based on the initial research, I drafted the problem statement. "A student or recent graduate who is looking for guidance and support in their field feels traumatized that there is no one to turn to and is unsure of how to succeed in their career”

Solution

The ideation workshop helped me solve the problem. The participants came up with 14 ideas and voted for the best solution. The solution is to "design a feature on LinkedIn for mentorship along with being able to book mentoring sessions with professionals to seek career guidance".

Result

Arranged 5 usability tests resulting in a 100% conversion rate and a usability score of 93.5
